I remember when "The perfect speed is being there" was our motto, was that 1975? Doc Page was at a recent 2009 State basketball game, Chaminade? I don't know who won but Pat McCormick may have been there. Doc was an inspiration in the classroom as well as poolside! We need to have a swim team reunion classes '75-'79? Let's have it a McCormick's house in Chesterfield! Flick & Hahn bring the beer, I'll bring ribs...

Doc was such an inspiration to me. I was really getting burnt out of swimming just before my Freshman year. I almost thought about quitting, but thought I would give high school swimming a try. It was the best thing I did. Doc's dedication, concern, and support gave me whole new outlook on swimming and life. Often it was the time when I was out of the pool in English class or while working at the Country Club that Doc would give me his philosophy and wisdom. I credit his guidance with giving me a better better perspective of the world around me.
Thank you, Doc.

I have so many fond memories of Doc and swimming at West. I remember my Freshman year swimming in lanes 3 and 4 with all of the Seniors and feeling so small. I was humming some song and all of a sudden Doc asked me if I wanted some music on while swimming and he went into the office and had the guys turn on some music. He said my singing reminded him Lita Ford, which I am still not quite sure how, but I was more relaxed and less intimidated swimming with the older kids.

Wow this has been interesting bringing up some old memories, totally forgot about the initiation. What about Blue Food? I also remember Tom Haury looking to cook Eggs after Morning practice before class in the locker room. Any one recall the races that took place before afternoon practice in the locker rooms? I was home visiting my parents a couple of year ago and found a Stretch Monster in the basement. He was rock solid. I remember Doc wanting me to work on my endurance so he had me swim a set of 3X500 Fly a couple of time a week. Then telling me that John “woody” Woodruff had the school record for 500 Fly and challenging me to try and break that time. How about Christmas break work outs, those where a lot of yards and what where those red things that hung on the wall we used to work out on? One more thought collecting up all the hair after trimming and shaving at state and bringing it back and presenting the bag of hair and the state trophy to Dr Burr

I wish I could be there this weekend, but currently living on the east coast makes it tough to make the meet and festivities. Well by the posting time you can see it is early here and I actually have to go pick up my daughter from her morning practice (4:45 – 6:00 AM) before school.

Doc Page was such a committed coach and quality person...great guy to swim for....not sure if he was a tougher swim coach or tougher Enlgish teacher, but I appreciated everything I learned from him in both "arenas"!

The pre-meet quote man, the jacket man and the yell man...I remember Woody going crazy spelling T-S-E-W(the backwards pysche out!)

Famous team t-shirts: REPEAT....then Success is not the result of spontaneous combustion, you must set yourself on fire!...then ARETE(greek word for excellence phyiscally, mentally, spiritually, etc)

How many swimmers in the world can say they were coached by a former Golden Gloves boxer!???

The early morning swims on snow days were always interesting fun---getting a ride in TA's camero!

The Deadly Medley '77 & '78 and 2 State Team Championships!

Columbia Hickmans false start in(if I recall correctly) the 400 free relay in the prelims of State in '77...I remember seeing the guy in line later that night at Burger King....needless to say he was pretty bummed!

Wow! It's great to read all of the posts from folks I remember well. Doc has been my inspiration and a supporter all of my life. He gave me a job (6 years at the Country Club), wrote my recommendations to grad school, and was at my wedding. Sure, I remember the great times, conference championships and state titles, but it is the day to day inspiration that has made me a better person and to reach higher than I ever thought I could. Thanks Doc.

As Greg said in the 70's section, making the call at 5 AM or so to make sure Doc would wake up and arrive on time for morning practice.

I also remembered that four of us sang a barber shop like song "four, fourr, fourrr, FOUR O'CLOCK in the morning" phone call we had made with DOC prior to our 4am saturday swimming practice. It was all a amazing memories. We did also caught up with him at Stake n' Steak on Manchester Road as one night stand (just kidding). And yeap, I still remembered the brain freeze every time I walked my two dogs on winter nights as I lived right up next to Lake Erie in Ohio. I really missed you all of you. Yeap, I did went back into swimming a few years ago, as you can see my times in OHIOmasters.com website.

13 State Championships! Wow! I think about all of the young women and men's lives Doc has touched over the years, mine Included. I vividly remember my Senior year (1993) and the State Championship we won, when no one (outside of Parkway West) thought we could beat MICDS. That year like all other years Doc wore many hats as a coach, teacher, mentor, motivator, psychologist, and leader. Doc brought together a group of young men and made us all believers that we could win State and we did. Something I'll never forget. Personally, Doc instilled the belief in me that I could be 'great' in the sport of swimming. I credit Doc's encouragement and guidance for allowing me to go on and swim 4 succesful years in college. I can also credit Doc for influencing my decision to go on and coach, which I did at the collegiate level for 9 years before changing careers a year ago. Thank you for the experiences of 4 great years and for the lessons you taught me which will last a lifetime.

Thank you! Greg Kristoff 93'

As a timer for the Boys Swim Team, I remember when the guys would run outside, jump in the snow, run back inside and jump in the water. Also, remember Joe Lucash trying to touch the ceiling from bouncing up and down on the diving board. But most of all hearing Doc. Paige's words of wisdom to help motivate each and every one of the guys to do their best swim.
